Update from Bridlewood School Open House

The New School Open House was held on November 26 at Centennial High School. It covered the Bridlewood K – 6 School and the Evergreen and Cranston K – 4 schools.

Floor plans of all schools were available as well as maps showing the exact location and how the school would be situated on the site.

The Bridlewood School will be at 207 Bridleridge Way. The school will be towards the north end of the site, at Bridleridge Heights and Bridleridge Way. The staff parking lot will be the farthest north with the parking access from Bridleridge Heights. The school bus drop off zone will be on Bridleridge Way in front of the main entrance to the school. There will be a secondary school drop off point for people walking their children to the school. It will be on a pathway running East/West on the south side of the school.

The core building will be built to accommodate 400 – 450 students. The core school can accommodate up to 12 portable classrooms. One group of six are planned to be attached to the core building on the East side of the school. The second group of six portables will be located on the South side of the school. This will bring the opening day capacity up to approximately 600 students.

As per Calgary Board of Education bussing policies the Bridlewood School will follow the 1.2 K walk limits. Children living beyond this limit would be eligible for bussing. The parts of the community outside of the 1.2 K zone are the eastern and southern edges of Bridlecreek, and the southern sections of Bridlewood Manor. Bridle Estates is also outside of the 1.2 zone, but as this is an adult community it wouldn’t be affected. The northern boundary for bussing will be 162 Avenue and the Western Boundary will be Bridlecrest.

The school is currently on schedule for completion in June 2010 and will open for the September 2010 school year.
